Especially, the sixth (6th) tab in Microsoft Excel is Data tab ribbon. Furthermore, the Data tab holds seven groups inside it. These seven groups are Get External Data group, Get & Transform group and the Connections group etc. Also, the Sort & Filter group, Data Tools group, Forecast group and Outline group are the groups of the Data tab.

In this post, we’ll know about the first group from the left side. The Get External Data is the first group of the Data tab ribbon in Excel. So, this group mainly focuses on fetching of external data into excel workbook. It means importing of data into excel program from other files, software and the web etc.

Description of Get External Data group buttons MS Excel

The Get External Data group has five buttons commands in Microsoft Excel. These buttons tools are From Access, From Web, From Text, From Other Sources and Existing Connections. Above all, only the From Other Sources button tool is accompanied by Drop down Menu list.

The From Other Sources has the From SQL Server and the From Analysis Services buttons etc. Also, the From Windows Azure Marketplace and the From OData Data Feed buttons etc. Additionally, the buttons are the From XML Data Import, the From Data Connection Wizard and the From Microsoft Query.

So, From Access button imports the data from a Microsoft Access database in Excel. Then, From Web button lets excel users to import data from a Webpage. Moving ahead, From Text tool button helps to import data from a text file present in computer into Microsoft Excel.

Similarly, From Other Sources imports the data from the locations like the SQL Server and the XML Data Import etc. Lastly, the Existing Connections helps to import data from the common sources. So, the sources are such as the Network, Workbook, Computer or the Tables.
